Opel and Vauxhall have confirmed that the new Corsa will debut at the Paris Auto Show in October, with production to begin in Eisenach and Zaragoza before the end of 2014.
Opel also announced German pricing of the fifth-generation Corsa, with the base three-door model fitted with the 69hp (70PS) 1.2-liter petrol engine to start from €11,980 ($15,795). The cheapest diesel-powered Corsa fitted with the 74hp (75PS) 1.3 CDTI starts at €14,930 ($19,683).
For customers who want more practicality, the five-door version of the new Corsa costs €750 ($988) on top of the price of each edition. Vauxhall hasn’t announced UK pricing yet, but said the prices will be released on October 2.
The technical highlight of the new Corsa is the new 1.0-liter Ecotec direct injection turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, offered in two output configurations – 89hp (90PS) and 113hp (115PS). Both units are mated to an all-new six-speed manual transmission, with fuel economy for the base 1.0-liter version being rated at 4.3 l/100 km (54.7 mpg US).
Prices for the Corsa equipped with this engine in Germany start from €14,480 for the three-door and €15,230 for the five-door.
Other gasoline engines on offer are the base naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter 69hp (70PS) unit, a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 89hp (90PS) and a 1.4-liter turbo with 99hp (100PS). On the diesel front, the new Corsa gets a completely revised 1.3-liter CDTI in two output configurations – 74hp (75PS) and 94hp (95PS). The base diesel has an average fuel consumption of 3.2 l/100 km (73.4 mpg US).
The new Corsa also debuts a new six-speed automatic transmission, with the completely new automated manual transmission Easytronic 3.0 also on offer.
