A photo of a two-door sports car draped in a silky blue cloth, purportedly showing the next MX-5, has been making the internet rounds.

The picture appeared on several sites such as the Miata Forums, Worldcarfans and AMS magazine without any confirmation about its authenticity. However, we traced back the photo and found a report on the Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ) that says it will appear in a new eight-page print ad made for the “Road to Fashion Rocks,” a six-week, multi-channel campaign for the 2016 MX-5 Miata.

“The back of that insert has a covered car,” Mazda’s Vice President of Marketing Russell Wager told OBJC. “You can’t see it but you know that it’s a convertible, so it’s kind of teasing that–—if you want to see the next generation MX-5 Miata, then watch the program.”

The new-generation MX-5 Miata will be revealed online on September 3, about a month before its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show.
