Skoda continues to show us the all-new Fabia bit by bit, with the Czech carmaker releasing the first photo of the all-new supermini’s interior as well as some fresh details.
As with the exterior, VW’s influence is overwhelming – sure, the dashboard looks clean and ergonomical, but were it not for the Skoda badge, it could easily be mistaken for a VW Polo.
Although the new Fabia is 8 mm shorter than its predecessor, its interior length has increased by around 8 mm to 1,674 mm, offering more space for the five passengers. Elbow room is also greater at 1,401 mm (21 mm longer) at the front and 1,386 mm (2 mm longer) at the rear.
Skoda says the new Fabia has the largest boot in the small car segment, at 330 liters (11.6 cu-ft), 15 liters more than the outgoing model. Furthermore, with the rear seats folded down, loading capacity increases to up to 1,150 liters (40.6 cu-ft).
According to the automaker, loading the boot is easier than before thanks to a rear access width of 1,098 mm, a tailgate that swings open to 1,915 mm and a low sill height. The loading area is 960 mm wide, 20 mm wider than the previous generation.
The all-new Fabia has a total of 17 “Simply Clever” features, nine of which are new. For example, it is the first Skoda to feature MirrorLink technology, which allows smartphone apps to be displayed on the screen of the infotainment system. There’s also SmartGate, a function that allows the transfer of certain vehicle data such as fuel consumption, average speed, journey costs to specific applications on a smartphone for storage and mobile use.
The Fabia also offers an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap and a new multimedia device cradle in the center console that can store a mobile phone, smartphone or an iPod. Other features include the dedicated storage compartment in the driver’s door for the high-visibility vest, a rubbish bin available for the side door and storage nets on the inside edges of the front seats.
