Skoda has begun production of the third-generation Fabia at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav, the Czech Republic, with the first car built wearing a “Race Blue” paint.

Skoda didn’t offer new information about the car, other than its market launch will be in November.

“The start of production for the new Skoda Fabia is another milestone in our model and production campaign. It’s always a big moment when the first vehicle of a newly developed model rolls of the line. This particularly applies to the new Fabia, as this great car is an important pillar in Skoda’s growth strategy,” said Skoda Board Member for Production Michael Oeljeklaus.

The Mladá Boleslav factory has received extensive adjustment and refurbishment work ahead of the production start for the new Fabia, with 40 companies specialized in production technology along with hundreds of experts having been involved in the process.

The new Fabia uses up to 17 percent less fuel compared to the previous model, thanks in part to its lighter body (up to 65 kg/143 lbs) and to its new engine lineup. The supermini will be available with new 3- and 4-cylinder petrol units based on MQB technology. The 1.0 MPI three-cylinders have indirect injection, while the four-cylinders are turbocharged with stratified injection (TSI) and have an engine size of 1.2 liters. Power outputs range between 60PS (59hp) and 110PS (108 hp).

The lineup of diesel engines includes the 3-cylinder 1.4-liter common-rail with an aluminum alloy block, available in three states of tune – from 75PS (74hp) to 105PS (104hp). All engines will be fitted as standard with start-stop system and kinetic energy recuperation, with transmissions options including a manual or a DSG double-clutch gearbox.
