We just spied BMW engineers evaluating an M4 prototype with an intriguing set of aerodynamic mods leading to the obvious question if a more potent version in the works.
The BMW M3 Coupe series is no stranger to hardcore special editions, from the E30 Sport Evolutions and the E36 GTs to the contemporary E46 GTR (V8) and E46 CSL, and more recently, the 2011 E92 GTS, so why not a track focused version of its successor, the M4 Coupe?
Naturally, the first question that arises with this tester is why the “Safety Car” decals, to which our spies answer that, besides the fact that BMW may be trying to fool us, this prototype also has different aero parts than the M4 MotoGP and DTM Safety Cars.
These include a protruding front apron and a large rear wing, both of which remind us of the E92 M3 Coupe GTS, which was lighter and had a bigger displacement and more powerful 4.4-liter V8 engine, among other upgrades over the regular M3. This tester was also fitted with Recaro bucket seats inside.
We’ll try to get more information on the car.
