The recall bug may be getting to Fiat Chrysler, as the company has now pointed to almost 189,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs over a fuel pump issue that could lead to stalling.

Grand Cherokees and Durangos built between January 2010 and July 2011 with either the V6 and V8 engines are affected by the recall, in which Chrysler says a relay can fail and cause the vehicle to stall, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. The company says there have been no crashes related to this problem.

The Associated Press reported, however, that an agency believes this recall should cover many more Chrysler products. The Center for Auto Safety believes at least 5 million other Chrysler products since 2007 should be covered in the recall because they all use the same electronic control module as the one in these Grand Cherokees and Durangos – and they’re still being used in the Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan.

The NHTSA has reportedly received hundreds of complaints about this problem, as well.

Chrysler has already had to recall 2007 Grand Caravans over a fuel issue, and had a big recall this summer with more than 800,000 Jeeps affected by an ignition switch defect.
