The upcoming facelift for the Hyundai i30 hatch will include the addition of a sportier version with a 1.6-liter turbo engine, a prototype of which our spies captured undisguised in Germany.
It’s Hyundai’s version of the Kia Pro_Cee’d three-door and Cee’d five-door GT models featuring the same 1.6-liter T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine.
At this point, we don’t know if it will produce the same 201hp (204PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) as it does on the Kia or if Hyundai will use the de-tuned version of the four-cylinder unit found on the European Veloster, where it delivers 183hp (186PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) to differentiate the two models.
There’s also a question on what badge Hyundai will use for the sporty-flavored i30. While the Korean firm is preparing a new “N” performance moniker, if the warmed-up i30 doesn’t out-power the Kia model, we don’t think that Hyundai will debut it on this car.
As far as appearance goes, the uncovered prototype sported a twin-exhaust setup at the back along with a lowered stance and bigger 18-inch wheels borrowed from the Cee’d GT.
