With an eye on Ferrari’s huge success in Asia, as well as its own optimistic projections, McLaren has decided it would be in good fortune to make a special model for the more eastern markets (China in particular). Sales in the region will grow from 20 percent in 2013 closer to 33 percent in 2014 – a third of their cars will go to Asia.
This, it’s taken the 650S, slightly detuned its engine with negligible effects on performance, while at the same time making it more comfortable and less racy, in order to enhance its day-to-day usability – the name’s also changed too, to 625C, with “C” standing for Club and emphasizing its more relaxed character.
Back to performance, the car makes 625 PS or 616 hp and takes 3.1 seconds to hit 100 km/h or 62 mph, while top speed is the exact same as that of the 650S, at 333 km/h or 207 mph.
In order to enhance comfort and cruising ability, engineers have given it new dampers, as well as a softer spring rate at the rear, in order to “ensure a sharp response with no loss in ride comfort.”
The 625C will be available as both coupe and Spider variants. Initially, it will be launched in Hong Kong, though “selected other markets across the Asia Pacific region will be announced in the coming months.”
