Mitsubishi has released two new design sketches featuring the Outlander PHEV Concept-S, a new study which will be revealed at the Paris Auto Show next month.
The Japanese carmaker says the Outlander PHEV Concept-S previews “a special package of the Outlander PHEV production model that has a refined interior and exterior design that magnifies the Outlander PHEV’s unique driving experience.”
The press release also mentions that the design of the Outlander PHEV Concept-S focuses on sportiness and sophistication and that the study is powered by a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrain with 4×4 capability which allows “soothing silent running and superior on-road performance.”
As it usually happens when carmakers tease upcoming studies, the design sketches look good and a production model loosely based on these drawings will no doubt be more attractive than the rather bland Outlander PHEV Mitsubishi is currently selling. The study appears to use design cues also seen on Mitsubishi’s three concepts revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year (the Concept XR-PHEV, Concept GC-PHEV and Concept AR).
The automaker didn’t release technical data, but the study’s powertrain should be based on the one from the production model, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors for a total output of more than 200 hp.
