As far as limited series vehicles go, 1,500 units is a rather big number, but given that the Scion FR-S is an affordable, mass-produced sports car, Toyota thought 1,500 is exclusive enough.
Unveiled at the New York Auto Show this spring, the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 has finally arrived in US dealerships with a starting price of $29,990 for the manual transmission model or $31,090 for the model fitted with an automatic. Prices exclude the delivery, processing and handling (DPH) fee of $770.
All 1,500 Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 models come with a Yuzu exterior paint color and feature upgrades from Toyota Racing Development (TRD), including TRD Quad Tip Exhaust System, TRD lowering springs, HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights, TRD steering wheel and shift knob, black seats with T pattern, TRD logo cargo mat and Smart Key with Push Button Start.
The limited edition series also comes equipped with a custom-designed aero kit including a rear spoiler and side fender garnish. Additionally, each vehicle features its sequential release series badge (1 of 1500), inlayed on its brushed aluminum shifter surround plate.
Just like the standard model, the FR-S Release Series 1.0 is offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and Dynamic Rev Management technology. Power is supplied by Subaru’s 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine producing 200 hp at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque at 6,600 rpm.
