Audi has just presented its new TT Sportback Concept for a four-seat, five door fastback interpretation of its sports car series that will enjoy its world premiere at the Paris Auto Show.

As the name suggests, the study fuses Audi’s TT and Fastback concepts into a sporty looking saloon the size of an A3 Sedan at 4.47 meters (176 inches) long, 1.89 meters (74.4 inches) wide, and 1.38 meters (54.3 inches) high, with a wheelbase of 2.63 meters (103.5 inches).

Compared to the latest TT, it is 290mm (11.4 in) longer, 60mm (2.4 in) wider and has a 120mm (4.7 in) larger wheelbase, but surprisingly, its height is 30mm (1.2 in) less than that of the Coupe.

The…TT-ness of its design is not only evident on the outside, but it continues inside as well, with the Sportback employing the same exact dashboard, including the 12.3‑inch digital instrument cluster, as the TT Coupe and Roadster models. The only difference is that it has two more individual seats at the back, though, it doesn’t look like there’s a lot of headroom back there.

The Sportback rides on the same MQB underpinnings as the TT (and a whole bunch of other VW Group models) with power coming from a new EA888-based 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged petrol rated at 400PS (395hp) and 450 Nm (331.9 lb‑ft) of torque between 2,400 and 6,000 rpm.

A fast-shifting seven-speed S-tronic twin-clutch gearbox turns all four wheels through the quattro system, with the five-door model reaching 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds while returning an average fuel economy of 7.0/100km (33.6 US mpg) with CO2 emissions of 162g/km.

Obviously, all the ingredients are readily available for the creation of a production model, so the question is, will Audi go ahead?
