The BMW M2 is one of the most anticipated models from the Bavarian automaker, as it follows in the footsteps of the ballistic 1-Series M Coupe.
Chances are it will be at least as fast, as the latest rumor from Germany advances an output of 374PS (369hp) and 520Nm (384lb-ft) of torque for BMW M’s smallest car. This means Stage 1 ECU mappings should easily boost output to over 400 hp, but still below the 425 hp delivered by the new M3 and M4.
The figures were mentioned in a report from Auto Bild magazine cited by BMW Blog, which claims the M2 will feature an updated version of the N55 TwinPower 3.0-liter inline-six engine also found in the M235i.
The engine is said to be available with both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The upcoming BMW M2 is also expected to feature technology sourced from the M3/M4, including steering, brake system and the active M differential.
The German magazine says the M2 will be priced around €56,500, making it about €10,000 more expensive than the M235i but significantly more affordable than the BMW M4 Coupe, priced from €72,200. In the United States, the BMW M2 should have a starting price of about $55,000.
Production is expected to begin in November 2015 with first deliveries scheduled in early 2016.
