Maybe it’s the language barrier or the confusion caused by the new Toyota Esquire’s Transformers-like nose plate, but somehow we’re not seeing the connection between the minivan and Batman in the firm’s ads.
Toyota further muddies the waters by stating that the new Esquire is a “deluxe minivan” and if you want to do some more head scratching, we’ll tell you that the 8-passenger model is a more luxurious interpretation of the firm’s Noah which is also offered in a sportier variant called Voxy.
All three minivans get their own unique front-end design, trims and accents, with the new Esquire scaring kids with a huge chrome grille that extends to the bottom of the bumper, additional chrome bits on both the outside and inside, along with a more plush two-tone interior.
Offered only in Japan where Toyota estimates to sell close to 50,000 units a year, the 4,695mm long Esquire can be had with a choice of three powertrains, a 136PS 1.8-liter hybrid unit exclusively in FWD and a 152PS 2.0-liter gasoline lump in FWD or AWD versions.
In Japan, prices range from 2,727,000 yen to 3,361,000 yen (from around $25,000 to $30,900).
