Apparently no one was unhappier about showing how Fiat and Chrysler’s cars did in Consumer Reports’ 2014 reliability study than Fiat-Chrysler.
On Tuesday, the Chrysler Group’s head of quality, Doug Betts, had resigned “to pursue other interests,” according to Reuters.
Betts had been with Chrysler since November 2007, when it was owned by Cerberus, and had careers at Nissan, Toyota and General Motors.
Chrysler’s showing in the Consumer Reports survey released Monday showed it lagged behind all automakers. Its highest-placed brand, Chrysler, was 22nd out of 28 places, and Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Fiat took the bottom four places – the Fiat 500L the least reliable car in the survey.
But Chrysler has consistently struggled in this survey over the years, and is still reeling from the botched 2014 Jeep Cherokee rollout due to issues that included the new 9-speed automatic. With numerous new model introductions in the pipeline, Fiat Chrysler can’t afford to have these cars stumble out of the gate.
