While the Abarth performance sub-brand of Fiat is by no means boring, its spectrum of cars is rather limited. It currently only does a few versions of the 500 and that’s it; they also used to do the Punto too, but that variant was discontinued last year.

However, a new model may be added to the Abarth roster in 2015, as a report by CarAdvice suggests. The 500X seems to be a prime candidate to receive a sprinkling of Abarth magic, and its makeover will apparently be more dramatic than that of the regular 500.

The Aussie publication spoke to Roberto Giolito, Fiat’s European design boss, who said “The Abarth vision is not only based on 500s. So there’s more to come,” adding that “The 500X is a good body for Abarth. I can say today this is a good item. It’s absolutely perfect in terms of drivability, control. The driving seat is perfectly measured to control the car. So the Abarth would be perfect.”

He also said the 500X Abarth “would be more visible because the car has more potential to be changed.” We assume that means an even more aggressive makeover than the rendered interpretation featured here, which simply adopts the same approach Abarth used to set the regular 500 apart.
