The first-gen Subaru Forester to hit the US market arrived in the US in 1998, one year after its Japanese market debut and some three years after it was previewed by a Tokyo motor show concept.
US-spec cars only had one (naturally aspirated 2.5-liter) engine option with 165 hp, simple, boxy styling and a distinctly cheap looking interior.
It was and still is a good car, though not necessarily driven by the most avid car enthusiasts ever… You can find passionate people driving these too (probably), but those people won’t keep their cars stock and they may do something similar to what the modded 1998 model in the video below has.
It features a 2.0-liter turbo unit in place of its larger non-turbo, as well as STi suspension subframes front and back, plus custom downpipes and exhaust for that extra bit of burble and hiss.
