Tesla shifted its 25,000th Model S early in January of this year, and it’s taken them another nine months to get close to doubling the figure. Now, it’s been suggested that the 50,000th example will reach its owner by the end of this month.
It’s an impressive achievement, given the fact that the much more mainstream Nissan Leaf took about the same time to reach its 50,000th sale. The Model S, costing as much as it does, could have lagged a lot further behind, and yet it hasn’t…
That stands as testament to the fact that Tesla really has managed to create a desirable premium electric vehicle that people are not only buying for it being electric.
However, it’s not exactly known when the 50,000 Model S will be sold, since Tesla does not supply monthly sales data – they do so once every three months.
According to HybridCars, the company sold around 46,928 cars through September, but these are not official numbers. The same source suggests that by the end of October, the manufacturer will have sold over 51,000 examples.
All of the above added up, it’s very likely that the 50,000 threshold could have been crossed already…
