Toyota has released more photos and information about the C-HR Concept, a study that previews a future C-segment crossover from the Japanese brand.

Toyota says the production car previewed by the C-HR study is the next rendition of Akio Toyoda’s promise to build more emotional cars, with the upcoming model to combine a next-generation full hybrid powertrain with dynamism and agility inspired by the GT86 sports car.

Based on a new platform, the dramatic-looking concept is 4,350mm (171.2in) long, 1,850mm (72.8in) wide and 1,500mm (59in) high, with a wheelbase of 2,640mm (103.9in). Toyota says the lower center of gravity and increased structural rigidity will contribute to greatly improved driving dynamics.

The C-HR Concept unveiled at the Paris Auto Show is powered by a new, full hybrid powertrain said to deliver “significantly improved fuel efficiency.” No details were offered about the hybrid system, but it is likely the same as the one used in the next-generation Prius.

The study introduces a new design approach with what it calls a “diamond styling theme.” That’s because beneath the flowing cabin profile, “the lower bodywork has been sculpted to create faceted surfaces, like the precision cutting of a gemstone,” according to the release.

The automaker says the front end of the concept marks a development of Toyota’s current design cues and the introduction of themes which “signal a future direction for Toyota vehicles.” The muscular wheel arches and the angular rear shoulders give the C-HR Concept a powerful look, while the aero-inspired floating taillamps contribute to the vehicle’s broad-shouldered look. No photos of the interior were released.
