It’s official: Sebastian Vettel is out at Red Bull Racing and therefore won’t be driving any more Infinitis.
The announcement came early Saturday that four-time champion Vettel would exercise a break clause in his contract and leave Red Bull early. Vettel also released an official statement Saturday, that he has decided to leave Red Bull at the end of the year.
“The chance to drive in F1, the first win with Scuderia Toro Rosso, the four Championship wins with Infiniti Red Bull Racing and many other great memories have bound Red Bull and myself together into a kind of family. No one can take these times away from us,” Vettel said in the statement.
BBC reported Vettel will head to Ferrari to replace Fernando Alonso, who is reportedly destined for McLaren. Vettel will supposedly help Ferrari climb out of its losing streak that has been at the forefront of its recent executive shakeup.
Infiniti is the biggest loser in all of this, as losing Vettel is a blow to the performance credibility it was just building with the run-up to the Q50 Eau Rouge in its own attempt to be a top-tier luxury brand.
