We won’t judge Tesla for looking to round off its profits by selling branded merchandise, since some of the most prolific manufacturers in the world also do it – its kind of the norm, really.
According to Tesla-centric site Teslarati, present at the P85D launch event, the manufacturer of all-electric vehicles will begin selling T-badged products other than cars “very soon.” All of these will be made out of recycled leather and be made available via the maker’s online store.
By recycled leather, they don’t mean salvaged vintage biker vests, but the offcuts left over from the Model S interior trim process.
What they will be offering are travel bags, phone, tablet covers and… other types of bags.
This means you’ll be able to match your iPhone cover exactly to your Tesla interior upholstery – that may make it difficult to spot were you to lose it inside, but hey, that’s a small price to pay.
Besides, at least Tesla didn’t overdo it and offer products it really had no connection with. In fact, it’s actually quite cool this time, and they could even take it a step further and offer a custom set of travel bags that would, for instance, make full use of the front trunk volume (of the Model S), like you get in boutique supercars.
