GM’s return to the compact truck market with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon twins is seen as rather questionable by Consumer Reports.

Tom Mutchler argues that the segment is slumping and that people who are in the market for a pickup truck may go for a full-size model instead, given the relatively price difference.

Still, Consumer Reports says the GMC Canyon is quieter, more refined and with a softer ride than rival compact trucks such as the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. However, that’s not a big merit, since the Japanese rivals haven’t been redesigned since 2005.

The review finds that the GMC Canyon is certainly not that good to drive to tempt car-based crossover buyers as GM is hoping for. Scroll down to learn more about the new compact truck from Consumer Reports’ review.
