If you’re from or if you’ve visited Europe, you’ll be familiar with the concept of premium sedans like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and even BMWs serving as taxis.
Now, Lexus wants a small part of the market with its very first hybrid taxi based on the latest GS 300h that was revealed in a yellow cab form at the European Taxi Fair in Cologne, Germany.
Lexus’ move to offer the GS 300h as a taxi in Europe mirrors that of parent company Toyota and its Prius that has been available as a cab for many years.
Gross prices start from 38,900 Euros (roughly $48,600 at today’s rates) with the GS300h fitted with an automatic transmission, cruise control, 8-inch multi-function display, rearview camera, automatic climate control, leather seats with heating and electric seat and lumbar support adjustment, as standard.
Power comes from a 223PS (220hp) 4-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline engine paired to an electric motor averaging 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg US) and 109g/km of CO2.
