The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently tested a batch of family-friendly minivans. Their findings suggest that none are really terrific at dealing with the small overlap crash test, and out of the five models tested, only two were recommendable, and even those partly due to having active crash prevention tech.
The worst faring was the Chrsyler Town and Country / Dodge Grand Caravan duo, followed by the Nissan Quest. The two recommendable models were the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna, with the former providing the best overall result.
In the video posted below, you’ll notice the Chrysler group’s offerings’ structure collapsing around the dummy, with sever intrusion into the cabin visible. The dummies miss the airbag and the feet remain lodged in the mangled metal. The side airbag also fails to do its job properly in this instance.
