Infiniti will preview the next-generation Q60 model (previously known as the G-series) with a design study at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The brand’s executive design director Alfonso Albaisa confirmed the news and told Motor Trend that the concept is “very, very close to the next Q60.”
Scheduled to be unveiled on January 13, the Infiniti Q60 concept will look very similar to the production car. Albaisa also dismissed rumors that the Infiniti Q60 design had been rejected multiple times by the brand’s former CEO Johan de Nysschen.
“When you have a transparent relationship with the big boss, nothing gets sent back because he’s never too far from the process — that was the benefit of working with him,” Albaisa said. Instead, he explained, the Q60 design would go back and forth between de Nysschen and the design team during the styling phase.
The designer also revealed that the Infiniti Q30 Concept unveiled last year in Frankfurt was in fact the actual production car, with minor modifications. “Q30, as was shown in Frankfurt, was actually the go-with beta model for the production car. All we did was change the front,” Albaisa said.
Infiniti’s chief designer also revealed that nothing has changes since de Nysschen’s departure to Cadillac. “He left after everything was signed off,” Albaisa said.
