I don’t know about you, but I struggle to find a logical explanation for the existence of the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. It is identical with the 3-Series sedan from a technical point of view, it doesn’t look better and is about £6,000 more expensive (in the UK). So why would you buy it?
Carbuyer’s Ginny Buckley tried to discover that and while she didn’t find many things wrong with the 4-Series Gran Coupe, she admitted the price premium compared to a 3-Series sedan is hard to justify, despite the extra kit that the 4 GC gets as standard.
Sure, the 4-Series features a hatch that offers better access to the boot, but other than that there’s nothing it can do that the 3-Series sedan can’t. Not to mention that people who want a more practical 3-Series will go for the 3-Series Gran Turismo or 3-Series Touring.
Head past the break to watch the test.
