AC Schnitzer has transformed a BMW X4 20i into a police vehicle for the Tune It! Safe! initiative by the Association of German Automobile Tuners (VDAT), which celebrates its 10th birthday this year.

Unveiled at the Essen Motor Show, the “Police BMW X4 20i TUNE IT! SAFE! by AC Schnitzer” is a special police concept vehicle that combines styling and performance tuning with maximum safety standards.

The BMW X4 20i has received a performance upgrade to make sure it can keep up with lawbreakers, with the engine being boosted from 184PS (181hp) to 245PS (242hp). As a result, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 212 km/h (131.7 mph).

AC Schnitzer says the car is capable to deal with longer pursuits, as it takes only 17.5 seconds to go from 80 km/h (50 mph) to 180 km/h (112 mph). The tuner has also tweaked the car’s suspension, fitting a spring kit that lowers the X4 by around 30mm (1.2in) at the front and 25mm (1in) at the rear.

But the most visible upgrades are on the car’s exterior, which features an aero kit including front spoiler elements, rear diffuser and carbon mirror covers. The AC Schnitzer Type V forged alloys in Anthracite and the 265/30 R 22 Hankook Ventus S1evo tyres are further proof that the police X4 means business.

The soundtrack is provided both by the AC Schnitzer silencer with 2 chromed “Sport” tailpipe trims integrated into the rear diffuser and the special police “RTK 7” signalling system, complete with flashing lights supplied by Hella.

Inside, the police version of the BMW X4 features an aluminium pedal set, aluminum foot rest, key holder and velour floor mats.
