It rides on a chassis borrowed from the Lexus SC, although as opposed to most versions of its older versions, it was engineered and marketed as a full-on sports car. In twin-turbo guise, the Japanese version had 276 hp, but that was raised to 320 by the time it hit American shores.
It was that moment (North American introduction) that really made its popularity soar. People discovered that its Lexus-derived three-liter straight-six could be tuned to crazy heights.
There were also its looks to shout about – even now, some more than 20 years after it was launched, it still looks quite sexy…
