Bringing the war to Ferrari’s terrain must be a great challenge for the powers-that-be at Porsche. The only problem is that said bunch of people constantly change their minds about future projects.
A good example is the sub-Boxster roadster that has been rumored to be under serious consideration for quite some time but, as Porsche North America CEO Detlev von Platen said, after many discussions it was killed off because “the decision was made that the time is not right”.
Another project that, according to Autocar, has been put on ice is the long-rumored rival to the Ferrari 458 Italia originally due in 2017. Code named 988, it would be powered by a mid-mounted eight-cylinder engine with a 4.0-liter displacement and an output of 600HP.
It looks like the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer has its hands full with its ongoing projects, such as the new, turbocharged engines for the Boxster/Cayman duo and the 911 facelift, the new Panamera, the third-generation Cayenne and the Pajun 5-Series rival.
