The appearance of a Brabus-tuned prototype of the new Smart ForTwo earlier in the summer meant only one thing; Renault would also get a spicier version for the related Twingo.

Now, our spies have photographic proof that Renault is currently developing a faster edition of the Twingo, though at this point, we don’t know if the French hatch will get the RenaultSport (RS) or GT badge.

Both the Smart ForTwo Brabus and Renault Twingo RS / GT are believed to share the same rear-mounted 0.9-liter turbo’d three-cylinder tuned to deliver anywhere between 110hp and 130hp, connected to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch automated transmission driving the rear wheels.

This tester featured a twin-exhaust layout set inside the rear diffuser along with a lowered suspension and bigger brakes and wheels. The production car will get some special styling touches to separate it from its less potent siblings.

Look for Renault’s faster Twingo at next year’s Geneva or Frankfurt shows.
