Of all the Porsche Cayman models produced to date, the new GT4 will be the hottest one so far bringing the 911 GT3’s magic formula to Porsche’s entry-level coupe series.
There are conflicting reports surrounding the engine chosen to power the Cayman GT4, with some saying that Porsche could debut a new turbocharged unit and others a larger displacement version of the Cayman GTS’ flat-six with 3.6-liters and an output of around 360hp to 400hp.
Like its 911 GT3 cousin, the GT4 will most likely utilize a version of Porsche’s 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission powering the rear wheels. Evidently, it will outpace the 335hp (340PS) Cayman GTS that runs the 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.6 seconds and tops out at 285km/h (177mph).
A lighter chassis, a lower ride, bigger wheels and brakes, plus aerodynamic enhancements as seen on this prototype and which include modified front and rear bumpers, a fixed rear wing and different side skirts, will all help create an enthusiast-worthy handling package.
Porsche will release the new Cayman GT4 sometime next year.
