Skoda’s upcoming third-gen Superb has been scooped for the first time in a production body that draws heavily from this year’s VisionC Concept.
The car is covered in wraps but we can make out plenty of the new sedan model under the camouflage. Unlike the sober-looking current Superb, Skoda’s new flagship has a more athletic design with tauter surfacing treatment and a much lower-positioned front grille.
We can’t see the rear in these photos, but it’s possible that Skoda will keep the ‘twin-door system’ of the current model that allows the boot to open on its own or in tandem with the window.
The Superb will share its underpinnings with the latest VW Passat including the MQB platform, but it will have a longer wheelbase for better rear passenger legroom, while remaining under 5-meters (197 inches) long.
Most turbocharged petrol and diesel engines found in the Passat are expected to be utilized on the new Superb, including VW’s 240 PS 2.0-liter TDI, paired to manual and dual-clutch DSG transmissions driving either the front or all-four wheels.
Skoda official have said that the new model will likely have its world premiere at the 2015 Geneva auto show in March, but at this point, we do not know whether it will be joined by the Estate version or if it will be presented later in the year, at the Frankfurt motor show.
