This year marks the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin’s Works division. To celebrate this milestone, the British luxury brand is launching six limited edition models, all based on the Vanquish.
The first of these cars was unveiled at Aston’s customer Christmas celebration and the firm claims it was developed in conjunction with the Q personalization service.
What does this Vanquish, which can be ordered as a Coupe or Volante (i.e. convertible), has over the plain vanilla model? Brace yourselves for it: trim and paint treatments and center console controls made from past cars’ pistons!
Aston Martin states that manufacturing some controls from rebuilt classic car engines and shaping them as rotary controls, along with splashing some color, makes these cars collectables.
“We certainly gave ourselves some challenges with this project”, said Aston Martin Works Commercial Director Paul Spires. “Colored side strakes such as these have never been attempted by Aston Martin before and sourcing pistons from the correct engines in the correct decade was, of course, no small feat either.”
For a Works devision we dare say that they didn’t work very hard; after all, the rest of the car is identical to the stock Vanquish. That means the same 568hp and 8-speed auto gearbox. That’s all nice and well but, if you don’t mind us saying so, it’s also way off its 730hp Ferrari F12berlinetta rival. Ah, but the latter doesn’t have yellow side strakes, does it?
