As of March 2015 BMW will offer its 2-Series coupe in 218i guise, powered by the firm’s relatively new 1.5-liter turbo’d 3-cylinder engine that makes 136 PS / 134 hp.
The Bavarian manufacturer will also add the possibility to specify optional xDrive all-wheel drive for the 220d, currently only available on the top-spec 235i.
The 218i will return a claimed 5.1 – 5.6 l/100 km or 55 – 50 mpg UK, while promising a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time of 8.8 seconds for the manual and 8.9 for the eight-speed automatic; top speed is 212 km/h or 132 mph.
Along with the new engine/drivetrain options, BMW is also adding new model variants too. These are called Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport.
Advantage “features in addition to the basic equipment multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, Cruise Control with braking function, Park Distance Control with sensors at the rear, a storage package and fog lamps.”
Luxury Line and Sport Line will add unique 17-inch rims, a light package that includes interior mood lighting with changeable colors and unique seat upholstery/trim combinations. The former features more chrome, while the latter relies more on gloss black, but they’re quite similar otherwise.
M Sport cars get even more, like the 10 mm lower suspension, unique 17-inch rims, the M aerodynamics package that features larger air intakes at the front, bespoke side sills and a diffuser at the back, along with the M steering wheel.
