If there’s such a thing as weather effects looking too realistic in a game and making it slightly difficult to play, then DriveClub falls into that category. The title just received a major update which, among other things, adds a stunning looking dynamic weather system that dramatically changes the racing experience.
All new car games have got or are getting dynamic weather, so we’ve seen a few such systems at work, but DriveClub’s developers just went the extra mile and obtained crazy results. Heavy snow is actually heavy snow to the point where you start missing the road and you end up in the side rails…
Realism is always good in a racing game, whether it be related to the physics engine or the graphics. This makes the latter really pop and improves the overall look of the game – it wasn’t bad before, but with weather as detailed as this you can really wholeheartedly call it “next-gen.”
Too bad the rest of the game is lackluster and impersonal, as most reviews have pointed out.
