The latest round of Euro NCAP’s safety tests see seven new models including the Porsche Macan and Lexus NX scoring big, and five newcomers falling behind.
Euro NCAP was especially critical of the Renault Group’s budget Dacia Logan MCV estate that only managed to get three out of five stars, stating that, “it’s a result that reflects the brand’s aspirations when it comes to safety and driver assistance systems in particular”.
The Logan MCV’s assessment read that, “in the frontal impact test, the passenger compartment suffered extensive deformation and could clearly not withstand any further loading.”
Elsewhere, the new Opel / Vauxhall Corsa, Smart ForTwo and ForFour, and the Mini hatchback only achieved four stars, though, Euro NCAP gave praise and a reward to the Corsa’s Side Blind Spot Alert system.
The other seven models tested, including the Ford Mondeo, Porsche Macan, VW Passat, Subaru Outback, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX and Kia Sorento all attained the top rating of five stars under the 2014 test regime.
Testers noted that the Ford Mondeo, Porsche Macan and Land Rover Discovery Sport all came fitted with an Autonomous Emergency Braking system as standard.
