McLaren is trying to whet our appetite with a new teaser photo of its upcoming junior supercar mode, the Sports Series, previously referred to by its P13 codename.
Well, actually, the Brits are preparing an entire range of models for the Sports Series that will be likely available with different body styles and levels of performance, which makes sense if McLaren is serious about taking on the Porsche 911, as well as the latest crop of similar sports cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT, and Audi R8.
The two official photos of the camouflaged prototypes released to date suggest that the Sports Series models will be instantly recognizable as siblings of the McLaren MP4-12C and 650S.
The family ties will continue under the skin, as the Sports Series will use the same carbonfibre MonoCell and a derivative of the 3.8-liter V8 engine powering the 650S, which should give the most affordable McLaren model a 0-100km/h (62mph) time in the low 4.0 second range.
McLaren has said that their new entry-level series will be a fun to drive sports car that can be used every day.
The Sports Series will be revealed in April of 2015, possibly simultaneously at the New York and Beijing auto shows.
