It’s sometimes hard to remember that the Jaguar XF launched back in 2007 and, aside from a mild facelift and some new models, hasn’t changed a whole lot.
According to Autocar‘s report, however, a new XF is coming next year and will fall in line with the newly launched Jaguar XE compact sedan in terms of both the styling and technology. But considering the XE looks like a shrunken XF, don’t expect the new XF’s looks to change radically.
The XF is the last holdover in the Jaguar lineup that isn’t on an aluminum structure. Shifting to the new family platform, along with introducing the new Ingenium engines launching in the XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport, could save upwards of 150 kg over the existing car.
The magazine says the XF could also be one of the first Jaguar Land Rover products to benefit from the company’s new Porland, Ore. technology center that’s helping to develop new connectivity systems.
While the report pegs an April 2015 launch at the New York Auto Show, the timing of the new XF in showrooms is a little tricky. Europe and other countries will get the XE around the same time, but that car won’t come to North America until a year later. Jaguar showrooms sound pretty crowded now.
Also peculiar is Autocar‘s report about the XF Sportbrake, which is supposedly going to carry over on the old platform for a couple of years after the XF’s redesign. But the new Sportbrake is apparently being engineered for the U.S., too, to which all I can say is that I’ll believe it when I see it here.
