The Maserati GranCabrio won’t have a replacement based on the next-gen GranTurismo, according to a recent report. It cites the Italian automaker’s North Europe manager, Peter Denton, who confirmed the fixed-roof-only news for AutoExpress.
Maserati won’t be left without a drop-top two-door, though, as its place in the range will be taken up by the smaller Alfieri Spider that will debut before the current shape GranTurismo is phased out – the former arrives in early 2017, while the latter goes out of production towards the end of the same year.
Details as to what it will be like are not available, and even if they were we’d not buy into them right away, especially since the launch of the model is still some three years away.
Maserati’s range will grow considerably by then: we’ll still have the Ghibli and Quattroporte (although they will probably be restyled once by then or around the same time), plus the upcoming Levante SUV, the Alfieri coupe and cabrio and finally the next-gen GranTurismo.
Once the SUV hits the range, it could be harder for them than they think to stick to the announced 75,000 production cap they imposed upon themselves to preserve exclusivity.
