A police chopper that had come to the aid of an injured officer in a patrol car exploded after its rotor blades clipped a nearby fire truck in San Miguel, Chile.

The bizarre accident took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 30, when the police helicopter landed at an intersection in the city’s downtown area to assist at a crash caused by a drunk driver that left three officers injured.

At that point, a fire truck that was making its way through the accident zone came too close and accidentally struck the chopper’s blades sending the EC-135 into a death spin before it collided with a police car and exploded.

According to Soy Chile, the helicopter pilot survived but was seriously injured with multiple fractures, while a few more officers suffered minor injuries from the explosion.
