If anything, Elon Musk knows how to play the media game. Well, we wouldn’t expect anything else from the charismatic CEO of the Silicon Valley-based Tesla Motors that’s vying for the top spot as an electric vehicle manufacturer.
Last Friday, he posted a Tweet about a “Roadster update coming next [i.t. this] week”, adding that “several crisis issues with higher priority pushed this out longer than expected”.
That caught us by surprise as the Roadster has been discontinued since 2012, so what kind of “update” was Musk talking about? The Elise-based electric sports car had a four-year run and topped 2,400 deliveries but Tesla has its hands full developing the Model X SUV and the Model III 3-Series competitor it
Could it be that he was referring to a new Roadster that would be unveiled before 2014 expires? After all, in 2011 he had promised to launch a second-generation Roadster in 2014. At the time, he had said that the new EV would no longer be based on the Elise but on an all-new platform.
At the time of writing these lines, we only have four days ‘till the end of the week and seven before New Year’s Day, so we’ll know soon enough what Musk was really tweeting about.
