Detroit is one of the last places you’d want to pop the roof off your car right now (6F / -14C), but inside the Cobo Center, it’s a different story.
That’s where Alfa Romeo hosted the world premiere of the production 4C Spider, almost a year after displaying the concept model at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
The Spider has the same pros and cons as the closed-top 4C along with a few extra pounds – 10kg or 22 lbs to be precise. Right above the passenger compartment, there’s a standard, removable cloth roof that can be stowed on board, though, Alfa plans to offer an optional exposed carbon fiber hardtop towards the end of the year as well.
Speaking of extras, if you really want to take advantage of the open top, there’s an optional Akrapovic center-mounted performance exhaust system that utilizes asymmetrical mufflers with a dual-mode exhaust valve system and link pipe with resonator to reduce in-cabin droning.
The 4C Coupe’s mid-mounted 1.75-liter turbocharged four remains unchanged pushing 237hp towards the rear wheels through a 6-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission for a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 160mph (257km/h).
The new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will arrive in U.S. and Canadian dealerships this summer.
