Going all the way to Munich to pick up your new car may sound counter-intuitive when you could just stop by a local dealership, but apparently lots of people picked up their own BMW in 2014.
According to a recent news release, BMW says about 22,500 customers made the trip to Germany to pick up their new car at BMW Welt, their so-called “experience center.” That’s where they can learn all about BMW’s history, even see the main factory or get a tour of the BMW Museum to see what the company’s cars were like when they first started out.
Even Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt picked up his M3 there.
I’m a fan of programs like BMW’s and wish more automakers would do it. Going to a company’s factory or museum makes the car itself more memorable and more appreciated. I’m sure even if Honda Accord owners went to go pick up their car straight from the Ohio factory, they’d feel more connected to their car.
OK, well that one might be a stretch.
