Pickup trucks and sports cars: this really sums up the 2015 North American International Auto Show that’s held in Detroit and is the first major event of the year.
The Ford GT was the star of the show this year. The third iteration of the Blue Oval’s iconic supercar looks pretty awesome, ditching the totally retro look of its predecessor for a new, even more aggressive shape in line with the times.
The GT stole the Acura NSX’s thunder, probably because it was displayed for the first time, while the Japanese hybrid supercar, awesome as it is, has been doing the rounds in various motor shows in much the same form for a couple of years.
Cadillac’s 640hp new CTS-V, which plans to go after the German establishment is quite a looker. The same goes for the Lexus GS F, sans the power part because, in this company, it is simply underpowered.
Then there’s the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, which made its international debut as a production vehicle, and the Infiniti Q60 Coupe that may still be a concept but it won’t be long before we can slap a license plate on it.
Ford also stole the show in the pickup truck debuts with its F-150 Raptor. You just can’t argue with an aluminum-based structure that cuts more than 500 pounds off its predecessor and is powered by a more powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, even if the official numbers are not in yet. Plus, in our books it looks extremely aggressive and better executed than the rest.
The pickup fight was flamed up by the Nissan Titan, Toyota Tacoma , Chevrolet Silverado Sport and RAM 1500 Rebel. The best-looking of the lot, though, was the Santa Cruz from Hyundai. For now it’s a concept but it could shake things up a bit if it makes it to the production line.
Of course there were many other interesting premieres, with the Volt II and Bolt Chevy hybrids making an impression – but you can watch the full image gallery of the 2015 NAIAS and see for yourself right after the break.
