A more powerful and more track oriented version of the McLaren 650S is on its way to the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, with the Ferrari 458 Speciale in its sights.
McLaren dropped a teaser photo of a camouflaged model stating, “Your first look at something new, more on this coming soon”. According to Autocar, the new version could be called the McLaren 675LT and it may present itself with 675 HP and a £400,000 price tag – which would make it a lot more expensive than the Ferrari and so probably this will not be the final number once the car goes on sale.
It’s expected to have a new low-mounted side air intake and a longer rear end, as for its engine, we could be looking at the same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 you find in the 650S, but with a power bump of about 25 HP and a weight loss of around 100kg. Performance wise this should mean that the 650S’ 0-62 mph time of 3.0 seconds should go down into the late 2 second range.
Even though the new model will be more track focused, it’s likely it will still remain road legal (in order to take on its road legal rivals). The final product could have elements from both the GT3 racer as well as the 650S Sprint revealed last year.
Last January, McLaren chief exec Mike Flewitt told the British magazine that a price of around £400,000 had been set for the new and more hardcore version of the 650S, which in our opinion is absolutely bonkers. We hope they come to their senses.
