Video footage of an off-duty, plainclothes San Jose police officer wrestling a young female driver at a parking lot came to light this week.

The incident is said to have happened in September 2014, after the woman purportedly rear-ended the cop’s civilian car. A bystander started recording the scene with his cell phone when the altercation became physical.

In the video, we see the cop, who is dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, grappling the woman before slamming her into a car. The off-duty officer yelled to the man holding the camera phone “Call the police! I’m a San Jose PD!” The man replies, “I just called them!”

As the officer and the woman struggled, another woman comes into the scene and starts pulling the cop yelling “Get off my sister!” The two women then make a run for it and drive off in their Toyota Corolla sedan.

KPIX-TV said it confirmed the man is a San Jose police officer, while Sergeant Heather Randol told the news station that “when the woman in the video allegedly rear-ended the off-duty police officer, he followed her vehicle and tried to detain her until local, uniformed police arrived”.

“During the altercation the female suspect assaulted the officer (bit him). She eventually ran to her car and drove away (as seen on the video),” said Randol. “Both women have outstanding misdemeanor warrants for their arrests,” Randol added.
