Opel has introduced a new version for its posh city car, the Adam Swing Top which features a canvas roof – an option previously offered only for the Adam Rocks.
Based on the Adam Jam trim level, the Adam Swing Top takes its roof off in five seconds, with the soft top retracting to the C-pillar at the touch of a button. It can be closed at speeds of up to 140 km/h (87 mph). The canvas roof is made of multiple layers, including a central neoprene layer, which Opel says it makes the Swing Top “extremely robust and durable.”
The entire roof module is also said to offer good noise insulation inside the cabin. Furthermore, the roof design doesn’t affect trunk capacity nor all-round vision, whether the roof is open or closed. Prices for the Opel Adam with Swing Top roof start from €14,990 ($17,625) in Germany (including VAT).
Another change in the Opel Adam lineup is the introduction of the new optional Easytronic 3.0 automated transmission which the automaker says it combines the advantages of an automatic transmission with the increased efficiency of a manual gearbox.
The third generation of Easytronic promises shortened response times and smoother gear changes. Combined with the 87PS 1.4-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, Easytronic 3.0 reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle compared to the standard five-speed manual transmission, while CO2 emissions are also reduced by 10 grams per kilometer.
The Adam 1.4 ecoFLEX with Start/Stop and Easytronic 3.0 averages 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg US) and emits 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The Easytronic 3.0 option costs €600 ($705) in Germany.
