BMW is starting yet another strong year, looking to boost sales even further and to surpass the 1,811,719 units sold in 2014.
New engines and equipment options will make their way throughout their model range, with more efficient TwinPower Turbo technology for cars such as the 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series, while the 5 Series will welcome the Edition Sport to its lineup.
The BMW 2 Series in 218i Coupe and 218i Convertible spec will feature a 1.5 liter, three-cylinder petrol engine, good for 136hp (100kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. This new engine can be mated to the 8-speed Steptronic transmission and will help the 218i Coupe reach 62 mph (100km/h) in 8.8 seconds, while the Convertible will take 9.4 seconds.
Furthermore, starting from March 2015, the BMW 220d Coupe powered by a 190 hp four-cylinder turbodiesel engine can also be equipped with BMW’s patented all-wheel drive system, the xDrive. The 220d xDrive Coupe will have the 8-speed Steptronic box as standard and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.9 seconds with an average fuel consumption between 4.7 and 4.3 liters per 100 km.
As for equipment levels, the 2 Series (both Coupe and Convertible) will feature new alloy wheels, the latest generation of the Professional and Business sat-nav systems with 8.8/6.5-inch control display and a high quality narrow surround. The 2 Series Coupe’s instrument cluster will have a sport indicator which provides info on engine performance and torque just like with the M models.
The more family oriented 2 Series Active Tourer will receive a new entry-level three-cylinder diesel engine (214d Active Tourer) with 95 hp and a maximum torque figure of 220 Nm (162 lb-ft), giving the car an even better fuel consumption at 3.8 liters/100km.
Moving on higher into the range, the F30 316d Sedan and Touring will receive a slight power boost thanks to a new 2-liter 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque (a 10Nm increase). Paired to the automatic 8-speed Steptronic, a 316d Sedan will be able to hit 62 mph in 10.6 seconds.
The BMW 4 Series will see even more action with the premiere of the 418d Coupe and an increase in power and efficiency for both the 420d Coupe as well as the Gran Coupe.
The all-new 418d Coupe version will be powered by a 150 hp 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine, also delivering 320 Nm of torque and dispatching the car to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds with either the standard 6-speed manual or the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission – which will also get an average fuel consumption of between 4.4 and 4.1 liters/100km with emission levels ranging from 118 to 110 g/km.
As for the 420d (Coupe, xDrive Coupe, Gran Coupe and xDrive Gran Coupe), its 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine received an extra 5 kW and 20 Nm so it now reads 190 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The fastest accelerating version of the 420d will of course be the rear-wheel drive Coupe, hitting 62 mph in 7.1 seconds thanks to the 8-speed Steptronic.
In addition to the new engines, a new exhaust system featuring redesigned twin-flow tailpipes is also making its way into the 4 Series.
The BMW 5 Series will welcome a more efficient 520d xDrive version, with 190 hp and a standard 8-speed automatic, able to manage as little as 4.5 liters per 100km. What will draw however even more attention will be the introduction of the Edition Sport supplement for the 5 Series Sedan and Touring, with standard leather-covered sports steering wheel, LED fog lamps, BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, redesigned 18″ alloys as well as new exterior colors such as Mediterranean Blue metallic and Mineral Grey metallic. In the future, the 5 Series Gran Turismo will also be available in Kashmir Silver metallic.
The M3 Sedan, M4 Coupe and M4 Convertible will see an extended range of BMW Individual options as well as enhanced interior leather upholstery.
As for BMW’s most advanced model, the i8, the good news is they didn’t forget about their one and only plug-in hybrid sports car. The BMW i8 will feature an extended range of standard equipment and new interior design options like the natural leather elements, combined with Carum Grey partially perforated leather surfaces and specific BMW i Blue accents on the seatbelt straps, seats and floor mats.
In less then 2 months, future BMW clients will have the possibility to choose from a more diversified model range and this will surely lead to bigger sales, while the enhanced efficiency of their entry-level cars will play right into the EU’s reduced tolerance level for emissions.
