Mitsubishi’s US dealers may have received a big boost in sales in 2014, but hopes that they’d be able to re-enter the midsize sedan segment could be squashed.

The deal, announced in November 2013, that would’ve provided Mitsubishi dealers with a successor to the discontinued Galant sedan has stalled, Mitsubishi Motors North America Executive VP Don Swearingen told Autonews Sunday.

Previous reports speculated Mitsubishi’s U.S. dealers would get a version of the Renault Latitude/Samsung SM5, built in South Korea. Automotive News‘s report says Mitsubishi could’ve received the car from either Renault or Nissan, however.

Other parts of the Renault-Nissan tie-up, including a Japanese-market kei car and a compact Mitsubishi Lancer-sized small car, do not appear affected by the stalling of the D-segment sedan project.
