The Smart ForTwo is now available to order with the six-speed Twinamic dual-clutch transmission, offered in combination with the 71PS (70hp) three-cylinder petrol engine.
The optional Twinamic gearbox costs €1,275 ($1,482) in Germany for the entry-level Smart ForTwo, but is offered as a €1,000 ($1,162) option on the Passion, Prime and Proxy trim levels. This means the standard Smart ForTwo with Twinamic gearbox starts from €12,170 ($14,140) in Germany.
The dual-clutch transmission offers a manual shifting mode either by using the selector in a separate gate or via shift paddles included in the Sports package. Designed as a 3-shaft dual clutch manual transmission, it has six forward gears and one reverse gear.
With Twinamic, the ForTwo sprints (sort of) from 0 to 100 km/h in 15.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 151 km/h (94 mph). Combined fuel consumption is rated at 4.1 l/100 km (57.3 mpg US), corresponding to a CO2 figure of 94 g/km. That makes it more economical than the base 61PS (60hp) model equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, which averages 4.5 l/100 km and emits 104 g/km CO2.
The first Smart ForTwo models with Twinamic transmissions will be delivered in March 2015.
