A dash-cam captured a Gulf Breeze officer run over by a Lexus SC, only moments after he had stopped the driver for a speeding violation.

Sgt. Kerstan Tatro pulled over Amy Lee Giorgio, 30, near the south end of the Pensacola Bay Bridge in Florida on Monday afternoon for allegedly going 65mph (105km/h) in a 35mph (56km/h) zone.

As he approached the woman and started talking to her, Tatro reportedly noticed Giorgio trying to put the Lexus convertible into gear. He tried to reach into her window to grab the keys from the ignition, but the woman then accelerated with the officer partly inside the car, dragging him for a few feet before making a short-lived getaway.

“I don’t know the complete extent of his injuries, but his arm was fractured in the window,” Gulf Breeze Chief of Police Robert Randle told the Pensacola News Journal. “It was pretty obviously broken.”

Other motorists at the scene rushed in to help Tatro and call in the incident, including his teenage daughter who happened to be passing by after leaving the mall.

“She was screaming my dad that’s my dad. I was thinking what is she doing here,” Tatro told Fox10.

Randle said that officers found drugs in Giorgio’s possession and she appeared to be impaired during her arrest. According to the Police Chief, the 30 year old woman was “previously scheduled for a January 20 trial on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug equipment and driving under the influence” and has a number of prior arrests for drug offenses, as well as “active warrants in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties”.
